“Eres Para Mí” by Julieta Venegas, ft. Ana Tijoux & Mala Rodriguez, English translation of lyrics

“You Are For Me” Lyrics
AlbumsLimón y Sal (Lemon and Salt), 2006; Julieta Venegas MTV Unplugged, 2008
Style: Hypnotic, alternative rock/pop. Julieta Venegas collaborated on this song with Ana Tijoux in 2006, and with Mala Rodriguez in 2008.
Country: Mexico
Listen: YouTube (official video). When I originally posted this song, Julieta did not have a VEVO account and there was not an official source for the original music video. These fangirls made a mimic video at YouTube here. It’s a very good mimic of the original!

Translation:

Chorus:
————————————————-

You are for me, the wind has told me this.
You are for me, I hear it all the time.
You are for me, the wind has told me this,
You are for me.
————————————————-

The shadow that passes,
The light that embraces me,
Your eyes watching me,
The street that sings its everyday song,
The world moving (itself).

And I know that you’re afraid,
And (that) it’s not a good time for you,
And for this that is happening to us
(But…)

[Chorus:Eres para mí…” You are for me…]

The mirror that sets its reflection on everything
Paints it just as it is.
My body that becomes weightless
If I hear your voice calling me.

And I know that you’re afraid,
And (that) it’s not a good time for you,
And for this that is happening to us
(But…)

Déjame sentir más de la cuenta.
El corazón es un músculo,
Si no late, revienta.

Let me feel a few too many times.
The heart is a muscle,
If it doesn’t beat, it explodes.

Extraño, mirarte de lejos, decir unos tonos,
Parecemos tan viejos, tiempo,
Hmm, ¿quieres más tiempo?

How strange, seeing you from afar, saying a few keys,
We seem so old, time,
Hmm, you want more time?

Mirame la piel
¿No ves a caso lo que siento?
Tu eres para mí, yo soy para ti.
El viento me lo dijo
Con un soplo suavecito.

Gaze upon my skin
Don’t you see perhaps what I feel?
You are for me, I am for you.
The wind has told me this
With a soft gust.

And I know that you’re afraid,
And (that) it’s not a good time for you,
And for this that is happening to us
(But…)

[Chorus: “Eres para mí…“]

Tú eres para mí.
Yo soy para ti.
El viento me lo dijo
Con un soplo suavecito.

You are for me.
I am for you.
The wind has told me this
With a soft gust.

[Chorus: “Eres para mí…“]

Translation Notes:

Mi cuerpo que no tiene peso
My body that becomes weightless
My body that has no weight [*literally]

(Qué) extraño, mirarte de lejos
How strange, seeing you from afar

extraño [adj.] = strange
extraño [noun, m.] = stranger

I took the adjective and assumed the absent word, qué, because of the verb.

If it had been mirate (look at yourself) rather than mirarte (to see you, seeing you), then I would have taken “stranger.”

¿No ves a caso lo que siento?
Don’t you see perhaps what I feel?

a caso = perchance, perhaps

eres para mí / Yo soy para ti
You are for me, I am for you

Tú & yo – not required grammatically but added for emphasis
