“Flores” (Flowers) by Silvana Estrada, English translation

“Flowers” Lyrics
Album: Vendrán Suaves Lluvias (Soft Rain Will Come), 2025
Style: Alternative/indie pop, slow soft pop. Bittersweet farewell song from a girl who was The Other Woman, understanding that the relationship was not serious for the one she loved, and that she was merely a soul passing briefly through their life.
Country: Mexico

Lyrics Translation:

I can’t anymore, with this waiting,
Living in the shadow of another love.
If I, for you, am a problem,
If you hide the moon, the sun won’t shine.

Todo lo que tengo son instantes
Que oscilan temerosos junto a ti.
Si acaso mi cariño es un dilema,
Toma fuerza o déjalo morir.

Everything I have are instances
That oscillate in trepidation next to you.
If perhaps my affections are a dilemma,
Gather strength or let it die.

Yo no canto.

Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, there’s no field.
Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, I shall not sing,
I shall not sing.

Let me know if you are changing,
Or if after everything there wasn’t anything more,
Briefly a soul appeared in your life,
Let’s not give people something to gossip about.

Yo no canto.

Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, there’s no field.
Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, I shall not sing,
I shall not sing.

Yo no canto,
Yo no canto,
Yo no canto
.

Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, there’s no field.
Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, I shall not sing,
I shall not sing,
I shall not sing,
I shall not sing.

Translation Notes:

Si acaso mi cariño es un dilema,
Toma fuerza o déjalo morir.

If perhaps my affections are a dilemma,
Gather strength or let it die.

She is asking their lover to make a decision, to stop stringing her along. They should either breathe live into the relationship or abandon it entirely.

Let’s go leaving it aside,
For where flowers may never grow, there’s no field.

Let us begin to leave this aside (to abandon the relationship),
Because where flowers cannot grow, there’s no space for me.

The noun campo has a dual meaning here. Literally it means “a field” (as in the open outdoors where wild or cultivated plants may grow), but it can also literally mean “space” (as in room for her to be in their life).

She is ending the relationship herself, after waiting for them to make a decision and finally deciding she is done waiting. She sees that this relationship will never bloom (develop further) and that she is unwelcome.

Yo no canto
.

For where flowers may never grow, I shall not sing,
I shall not sing.

She will not spend her energy or place her hopes on this relationship any longer.

Briefly a soul appeared in your life

Briefly, there appeared a being/person/soul in your life

She sees that they don’t care for her or see her as a big part of their life. She is merely a passerby in the background of their life. It is offensive, but she doesn’t care anymore.
