“Embrace Me” (“Hug Me”) Lyrics
Album: Abrázame (Embrace Me), 2025
Style: Alternative/indie love song for a shaky relationship, declaring love and asking forgiveness. Slow lyrics, well enunciated.
Country: Mexico
Lyrics Translation:
Abrázame
Como hace la luz del sol,
Llenándome de calor
Si el frío me hace mal.
Embrace me
Like the sunlight does,
Filling me with warmth
If the cold does me wrong.
Sé que te he hecho sentir
Que todo va a estallar.
Permíteme insistir,
No quise hacerlo mal.
Perdóname si yo te habré causado
Alguna herida.
I know that I’ve made you feel
That everything will fall apart.
Allow me to insist,
I didn’t mean to ruin it.
Forgive me if I may have caused you
Some injury.
Y ahora te digo,
No te preocupes, mi amor,
Escucha cada latido
Que te habla al oído mi corazón.
And now I say to you,
Don’t worry, my love,
Listen to every beat
That my heart whispers in your ear.
Abrázame
Como hace el atardecer
Con tintes dorados de cielos pasados
Hasta anochecer.
Embrace me
Like the evening does
With golden tones of old skies
Until night comes.
Sé que te he hecho sentir
Que todo va a estallar.
Permíteme insistir,
No quise hacerlo mal.
Perdóname si yo te habré causado
Alguna herida.
I know that I’ve made you feel
That everything will fall apart.
Allow me to insist,
I didn’t mean to ruin it.
Forgive me if I may have caused you
Some injury.
Y ahora te digo,
No te preocupes, mi amor,
Escucha cada latido
Que te habla al oído mi corazón.
And now I say to you,
Don’t worry, my love,
Listen to every beat
That my heart whispers in your ear.
Y si me encuentras perdido,
Solo es por una razón,
Es que he desaparecido
Si falta tu abrigo a mi corazón.
And if you find me lost,
It is just for one reason,
It’s because I’ve disappeared
Without your warm coat over by heart.
Translation Notes:
Abrázame
Como [lo] hace la luz del sol
Embrace me
Like the sunlight does
Hug me
As the light of the sun does [it]
For the slow and poetic tone of the song, I picked “embrace me”, but normally in regular speech, I would translate as “hug me.”
Llenándome de calor
Si el frío me hace <mal>.
Filling me with warmth
If the cold does me <wrong>.
If the cold makes me <ill>.
The singer asks their former lover to hug them and warm them like a ray of sunlight, protecting them like the sun protects them from the betrayal of the cold. When a thing te hace mal (makes you ill/uncomfortable/sick), it means that it disequilebrated you somehow. People use this phrase when talking about eating food that made them sick, or getting carsick or sea sick, or experiencing bad news or events that give them headaches or otherwise make them feel ill.
Sé que {te he hecho} sentir
Que todo va a {estallar}.
Permíteme insistir,
No quise hacerlo <mal>.
I know that {I’ve made you} feel
That everything will {fall apart / shatter}.
Allow me to insist,
I didn’t mean to <ruin> it.
I didn’t want to make it <bad>.
The singer is now starting an apology. They did something to destroy a part of the relationship. Maybe they shattered their lover’s trust in them, or otherwise shook their sense of security. Something went wrong and it’s their fault and they are saying that they regret what happened.
Perdóname si yo te habré causado
Alguna herida.
Forgive me if I may have caused you
Some injury.
Forgive me if I will* have caused you [*future tense used as past tense conjecture]
Some injury (or hurt).
The Spanish syntax here is meant to sound suave and deferrential. The verb habré doesn’t mean future tense “will have”, but instead “may have”. It could weaken the apology somewhat, since it makes the phase sound subjunctive, making the other person’s hurt sound like an uncertain possibility instead of what actually happened.
However, this stanza is part of the block that begins with “I know that I’ve made you feel that everything will fall apart” and THAT is very direct. He takes responsibility for making them feel that way. My guess is that whatever happened caused them to stop communicating, so now he’s trying to win his ex back and figure out how they are feeling. That’s why he is speaking a little cautiously here, inviting them to communicate with him.
Y ahora te digo,
No te preocupes, mi amor,
Escucha cada latido
Que te habla al oído mi corazón.
And now I say to you,
Don’t worry, my love,
Listen to every beat
That my heart whispers in your ear.
The singer wants to regain their lover’s trust. He tells them to listen to his heart, meaning that they should focus on how much love he feels for them, and to put their trust in that.
Abrázame
Como hace el atardecer
Con tintes dorados de cielos pasados
Hasta anochecer.
Embrace me
Like the evening does
With golden tones of old skies (of skies past)
Until night comes.
The singer asks their lover to hug them and to remember the golden glow of their past good times.
Y si me encuentras perdido,
Solo es por una razón…
And if you find me lost,
It is just for one reason…
Es que he desaparecido
Si falta tu abrigo a mi corazón.
It’s because I’ve disappeared
Without your warm coat over by heart.
It’s that I have disappeared
If I don’t have (if I lack) your warm coat over my heart.
The last line doesn’t say “warm coat”, just “coat”, but I think the warmth is implied from other stanzas. The singer is telling his former lover that he needs them, that his heart needs them, and that he will feel cold and fade away without them. This song is basically saying: “Hey, I messed up, and I miss you. Please remember how much I love you and give me another chance.”
