“Kisses in War” Lyrics
Album: Balas Perdidas (Lost Bullets), 2018
Style: Latin rock about love
Country: Colombia
Listen: YouTube
Translation:
¿Quién te dijo esa mentira?
Que eras fácil de olvidar.
No hagas caso a tus amigos,
Solo son testigos de la otra mitad.
Who told you that lie?
That you were easy to forget.
Don’t listen to your friends,
They’re just witnesses for the other side.
Dos besos son demasiado
Y un beso no bastará.
Y aunque adviertan a soldados,
Si está enamorado en guerra morirá.
Two kisses are too much
And one kiss isn’t enough.
And although they warn soldiers,
That if they fall in love in war, they’ll die.
Ya no tienes que cuidarme porque yo
Siempre he sabido que tus besos matan,
Que tus promesas riman con dolor,
Que eres experta en robarle latidos a mi corazón.
You don’t need to take care of me anymore because I
Always knew that your kisses kill,
That your promises rhymed with pain,
That you are an expert in stealing beats from my heart.
Y tú nunca juraste que saldría ileso.
Ya no te atrevas a pedir perdón.
Yo te confieso que no me arrepiento
Y aunque estoy sufriendo, podría estar peor.
Woah oh oh~
And you never swore that I would get out unharmed.
Now don’t dare to ask for forgiveness.
I confess to you that I don’t regret it
And although I am suffering, I could be worse.
Whoa oh oh~
Sabiendo que tus besos matan moriré de amor, woah oh,
Sabiendo que tus besos matan moriré de amor, woah oh
Sabiendo que tus besos matan…
Knowing that your kisses kill, I will die of love, whoa oh
Knowing that your kisses kill, I will die of love, whoa oh
Knowing that your kisses kill…
Para mí nunca fue un juego.
Para ti fue un beso más.
Y si vuelves a mi vida,
No es que estés perdida,
No es casualidad.
For me it was never a game.
For you it was just one more kiss.
And if you return to my life,
It isn’t because you got lost,
It isn’t a coincidence.
Ya no tienes que cuidarme porque yo
Siempre he sabido que tus besos matan,
Que tus promesas riman con dolor,
Que eres experta en robarle latidos a mi corazón.
You don’t need to take care of me anymore because I
Always knew that your kisses kill,
That your promises rhymed with pain,
That you are an expert in stealing beats from my heart.

Sabiendo que tus besos matan…
Knowing that your kisses kill, I will die of love, whoa oh
Knowing that your kisses kill, I will die of love, whoa oh
Knowing that your kisses kill…
Ganaré la guerra para conquistarte.
No quiero admitir que te vas, que te vas.
Ganaré la guerra para conquistarte.
No quiero admitir que te vas, que te vas.
I will win the war to conquer you.
I don’t want to admit that you leave, that you leave.
I will win the war to conquer you.
I don’t want to admit that you leave, that you leave.
Yo perdí batallas por nunca aceptar que
No eras fácil de olvidar,
Porque yo
Siempre he sabido que tus besos matan,
Que tus promesas riman con dolor,
Que eres experta en robarle latidos a mi corazón.
I lost battles for never accepting that
You were not easy to forget,
Because I
Always knew that your kisses kill,
That your promises rhymed with pain,
That you are an expert in stealing beats from my heart.
Y tú nunca juraste que saldría ileso.
Ya no te atrevas a pedir perdón.
Yo te confieso que no me arrepiento

Knowing that your kisses kill…
Translation Notes:
No hagas caso a tus amigos,
Solo son [testigos] de la otra {mitad}.
Don’t listen to your friends,
They’re just [witnesses] for the other {side}.
Don’t listen to your friends,
They’re just [witnesses] for the other {half}.
Here, he means witnesses like the kind that take the stand at a trial. “La otra mitad” means “the other half”, a reference to the phrase “my better half” but without the “better” or possessive pronoun.
Dos besos son demasiado
Y un beso no bastará.
Two kisses are too much
And one kiss isn’t enough.
Two kisses are a lot
And one kiss isn’t enough.
{Ya} no tienes que [cuidarme] porque <yo>
(Siempre) <he sabido> que tus besos matan
You don’t need to [take care of me] {anymore} because <I>
(Always) <knew> that your kisses kill
You don’t need to [take care of me] {anymore} because <I>
<Have> (always) <known> that your kisses kill
Technically, he sabido is conjugated in the pretérito perfecto or perfect present tense, so “have known” is correct. He knows and has always known. For the purposes of lyrical composition, I changed the tense slightly so I could move the “always” to the front like in the Spanish lyrics. If you prefer to keep the same tense, use “have always known” instead.
Ganaré la guerra para conquistarte.
I will win the war to conquer you.
I will win the war to win you.
In Spanish, the verb conquistar has a romantic sense meaning to convince to be in a relationship, to win over. It is generally used in a positive way. In English, we don’t really use “to conquer” in the romantic sense anymore, but we do occasionally use the noun in “my conquest,” though even this is falling out of favor because it sounds one-sided in English. It is more common to hear “I won her/him/them over” in English.
In Spanish, part of la conquista is that it needs to be accepted, so it doesn’t have the same one-sided connotation.
