Similarly, the verb “wormed” doesn’t need to be used but passive voice “se metió” suggests that imagery. The love was not “let in”, but rather it “got in”. The lyrics suggest a change in speed, of something starting slow and suddenly taking off.

“Ay de mí” is an idiomatic phrase that means “poor me” or “woe is me”.
