“Another Page” Lyrics
Album: En Vivo (Live), 2005, Los Cadetes de Linares
Style: Regional Mexican song composed by Don Raul Ramírez García. It’s about starting a new chapter in life (another page) after ending a relationship. Happy new year! Updates will be less frequent this & next month due to the California fires. I’m ok but several people I know are affected by the smoke.
Country: Mexico
Listen: YouTube (Los Cadetes de Linares); also Ezequiel Peña, Ariel Camacho
Translation:
No interrumpas mi vida, yo no te puedo amar.
It is pointless for you to return, what was, now isn’t.
It is pointless for you to want to start once again.
Don’t interrupt my life, I cannot love you.
I only know that — your mouth — I will not kiss again.
I hold an empty book and I am going to start it.
I thirst for affections, I desire to love.
Today begins my life, another page,
Today life teaches me to love myself more.
Y yo espero mañana comenzar otra vez,
Quiero encontrar mi suerte y no dejarla jamás.
(x2)
It is the typical story, a love that left,
And I hope to — tomorrow — begin once again,
Without bitterness nor fears, I want to live in peace.
I want to find my luck and never leave her again.
(x2)
Translation Notes:
This song is from prolific composer Don Raul Ramírez García from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He was interviewed about his songs in 2020 on a video posted to Facebook, where he quotes José Alfredo Jiménez’s farewell song “Gracias” and says that the applause was what really mattered, more than any money. He talks about how he puts the emotions of his memories into his songs, and thanks God for his creativity. Don Raul has a biography at Enciclopedia de la literatura en Mexico (Encyclopedia of literature in Mexico).
I hold an empty book and I am going to start it.
I thirst for affections, I desire to love.
More literal:
I have an empty book and I am going to start it.
I have thirst for affections, I have desire to love.
Today life teaches me to love myself more.
Today I am taught by life that I should love myself more already.
Y yo espero mañana comenzar otra vez,
And I hope to — tomorrow — begin once again,
Without bitterness nor fears, I want to live in peace.
And tomorrow I hope to begin again,
Without rancor/resentment nor fear/dread, I want to live in peace.
