“Poison” Lyrics Translation
Album: Vida cotidiana (Daily life), 2023
Style: Pop/rock about dealing with toxic people, being over it, and not letting their poison affect you anymore.
Country: Colombia
Listen: YouTube

Translation:

Antes de irte,
Te dije lo que sentía
Y lo entendiste mal.

Before you left,
I told you how I felt
And you took it wrong.

Tú me dijiste que todo lo comprendías
Y te pusiste a hablar.

Tanta mierda que no puedo explicar.
Tu veneno ya no me hace mal.

You told me that you understood it
And you started to talk.
So much shit that I can’t even explain it.
Your poison can’t hurt me anymore.

Lo que tú tienes, te lo mereces.
Te has portado muy mal.
Yo te lo dije, tú no lo entendiste,
Hoy te toca pagar
.

What you have, you deserve it,
You have acted very poorly.
I told you, you didn’t understand it,
Now it’s your time to pay.

Oh, oh-oh-oh.

[Musical interlude]

Lo que no mata,
Te hace más fuerte,
He vuelto a renacer.

What doesn’t kill you
Makes you stronger,
I have been reborn.

Tú que dijiste que todo lo comprendías
Y te pusiste hablar,
Oh, oh-oh-oh.

You who said that you understood everything
And then you started to talk,
Oh, oh-oh-oh.

Tanta mierda que no puedo explicar.
Tu veneno ya no me hace mal.

So much shit that I can’t even explain.
Your poison can’t hurt me anymore.

Lo que tú tienes, te lo mereces,
Te has portado muy mal.
Yo te lo dije, tú no lo entendiste,
Hoy te toca pagar.

What you have, you deserve it,
You have acted very poorly.
I told you, you didn’t understand it,
Now it’s your time to pay.

Tu veneno ya no me hace mal,
Tu veneno ya no me hace mal,
Esta vez tienes que pagar.

Your poison can’t hurt me anymore,
Your poison can’t hurt me anymore,
This time you have to pay.

Lo que tú tienes, te lo mereces,
Te has portado muy mal.
Yo te lo dije, no lo entendiste,
Hoy te toca pagar.
Oh, oh-oh-oh,
Oh, oh-oh-oh
.

What you have, you deserve it,
You have acted very poorly.
I told you, you didn’t understand it,
Now it’s your time to pay.
Oh, oh-oh-oh,
Oh, oh-oh-oh.

Translation Notes:

Antes de irte,
Te dije lo que sentía
Y lo entendiste mal.

Before you left,
I told you how I felt
And you took it wrong. [*colloquial]
And you understood it wrong. [*literal]

Before leaving, the singer bared their feelings and the other person (the toxic one) took it poorly.

Tú me dijiste que todo lo comprendías
Y te pusiste a hablar.

You told me that you understood it
And you started to talk.

The toxic person started to discuss the situation or relationship, and I think they started to re-write events (warp the story) or otherwise attempt to manipulate the singer.

Tanta mierda que no puedo explicar.
Tu veneno ya no me hace mal.

So much shit that I can’t even explain it.
Your poison can’t hurt me anymore.

The way that the other person discussed the situation or relationship was so incorrect and toxic that the singer has had enough. They are done. They are walking away from this relationship and the person’s toxic nature, and thus they cannot be hurt anymore.

Lo que no mata,
Te hace más fuerte,
He vuelto a renacer.

What doesn’t kill you
Makes you stronger,
I have been reborn.

The relationship was toxic, but didn’t kill them. They are leaving and they feel lighter and stronger now. Leaving is a type of rebirth. Taking themselves out of that situation changes them.

I hope your relationships are good ones, readers! If not, I hope you can fix them and regain happiness. And if still not, consider the sunk cost fallacy when making decisions about the future.
