“A Bit [of Your Heart]” Lyrics
Album: ¿Dónde Jugarán los Niños? (Where Will the Children Play?), 1992; Maná MTV Unplugged, 1999; Luna (Moon), 2003
Style: Acoustic rock, simple one-sided romance song asking for a little love.
Country: Mexico
Listen: YouTube (recorded, live)
Translation:
Tan solo un adicto,
Un adicto de tu sol
Y es que con solo un cachito,
Un pedacito de tu luz,
Yo llegaría al cielo
O me caería al suelo
Por ti, amor.
Just an addict,
An addict of your sun
And it’s just that with only a bit,
A piece of your light,
I would reach the heavens
Or I would fall to the ground
For you, my love.
Chorus:
Tan solo
Un cachito de tu corazón,
Un cachito de tu corazón,
Un cachito de tu corazón,
Soy un adicto de tu corazón.
Just only
A bit of your heart,
A bit of your heart,
A bit of your heart,
I am an addict of your heart.
Pedirle a mi cabeza
Que deje de pensar en ti
Es casi como pedirle
A mi corazón que deje de latir.
Mas bien olvida eso,
No, no repitas eso, te pido amor.
Asking my head
To stop thinking of you
Is almost like asking
My heart to stop beating.
Better to just forget that,
No, no, don’t repeat that, I ask you, my love.
[Chorus]
Chiquitica de mi corazón
Chiquitica de mi corazón
Chiquitica de mi corazón
Chiquitica de mi corazón
Just a crumb of my heart
Just a crumb of my heart
Just a crumb of my heart
Just a crumb of my heart
Translation Notes:
cachito (Latin American) = a little bit of something; a small piece
chiquitica = a teensy itty bitty piece
In Spanish:
–ito, –ita = small, little; diminutive form
–itito, –itita = even smaller than –ito/-ita, used as the next smallest measurement
–illo, –illa = similar to –itito/-itita; runt
–(i)tico, –(i)tica = a tiny little bit, it sounds more like a precise measurement; a small unit; usually used to make measurements sound smaller
Example:
pajaro = bird
pajarito = little bird
pajaritito = teeny bird (a particularly small bird in a group of small birds)
pajarillo = teeny bird, the bird-equivalent of a runt
pajaritico isn’t something you’re likely to hear.
