“Much Too Late”
Style: Emo alternative rock with folk music elements about unfulfilled potential and wanting to change
Country: Spain
Listen: YouTube
Translation:
Rondaba los veinte años
Y sin darse cuenta ya era toda una mujer
Había empeñado su vida, aunque no lo sabia,
En hacerle feliz a él.
Pero nadie la escuchó,
Cuando en silencio gritó…
She was roaming those twenty years
And without realizing it she was fully a woman
She had pawned her life, though she didn’t know it,
To make him happy.
But nobody heard her,
When in silence she yelled…
Y ahora voy a ser yo,
Solo para mí,
Dejar atrás la otra vida,
Y prescindir de ti.
And now I am going to be myself,
Only for myself,
Leave behind the other life,
And do without you.
Quiero empezar otra vez
Una pagina en blanco
Y no, no me voy a arrepentir
Pero nadie la escuchó,
Cuando en silencio gritó
I want to start again
A blank page
And no, I won’t regret it
But nobody heard her,
When in silence she yelled
Y ahora es demasiado tarde
El tren salió de la estación
Y ahora es demasiado tarde,
Porque esta vez solo viajo yo
And now it’s much too late
The train has left the station
And now it’s much too late,
Because this time I travel alone
Yo sola en el vagón
Buscando un nuevo destino
Con ganas de cambiar
Me alone in the wagon
Looking for a new destiny
With the desire to change
Quiero encontrar un camino
Empezar desde cero
Para no volver jamás
Pero nadie la escuchó,
Cuando en silencio gritó
I want to find a path
Start from nothing (lit. zero)
So to never return
But nobody heard her,
When in silence she yelled
Y ahora es demasiado tarde
El tren salió de la estación
Y ahora es demasiado tarde,
Esta vez solo viajo yo
(x4)
And now it’s much too late
The train has left the station
And now it’s much too late,
Because this time I travel alone
(x4)
Translation Notes:
Rondaba los veinte años
She was roaming those twenty years
She was about twenty years old
—
Y sin darse cuenta ya era toda una mujer
And without realizing it she was fully a woman
toda una mujer = all a woman, fully a woman
—
En hacerle feliz a él
To make him happy
Could also be written:
En hacerlo feliz a él
Some Spanish-speaking areas use the suffix –le instead of –lo. Here it is masculine but sometimes it is used as a gender neutral alternative to –lo (masculine) or –la (feminine).
Also note that “a él” adds emphasis on him.
—
Y prescindir de ti
And do without you
prescindir de… = to do without… (by choice)
prescindir = dispense with, put aside, set aside
—
Porque esta vez solo viajo yo
Because this time I travel alone
Because this time only I travel [*literal word-for-word]
