“Para Siempre” by Vicente Fernández, English translation of lyrics

“Forever” Lyrics
Album: Para Siempre (Forever), 2007
Style: Romantic mariachi serenade to a lover after a rough relationship spot. Relationships take work, but their love is forever.
Country: Mexico
Listen: YouTube

Translation:

Vale más, un buen amor
Que mil costales de oro.
Vale más, un buen amor
Por eso eres mi tesoro.

It’s worth more, a good love,
Than a thousand sacks of gold.
It’s worth more, a good love,
That’s why you are my treasure.

Valgo mucho, junto a ti,
Y soy muy feliz contigo.
Vales mucho para mí,
Con el corazón te digo.

I am worth a lot, next to you,
And I am very happy with you.
You are worth a lot to me,
With my heart, I tell you this.

Olvidemos
El pasado
Y lo que diga la gente.
La verdad es
Que te amo
Y me amas
Para siempre.

Let’s forget
The past
And what people may say.
The truth is
That I love you
And you love me
Forever.

Olvidemos,
El pasado
Y vivamos
El presente.
Lo que importa es
Que me amas
Y te amo
Para siempre.

Let’s forget
The past
And let us live
The present.
What matters is
That you love me
And I love you
Forever.

[Musical interlude]

Vale mucho un gran amor
Que en el perdón a crecido.
Hoy sé que el llanto sirvió
Para reforzar el nido.

It’s worth a lot, a great love,
That in forgiveness has grown.
Today I know that the tears served
To reinforce the nest.

Olvidemos
El pasado
Y lo que diga la gente.
Lo que importa es
Que te amo
Y me amas
Para siempre.

Let’s forget
The past
And what people may say.
The truth is
That I love you
And you love me
Forever.

Olvidemos
El pasado
Y vivamos
El presente.
Lo que importa es
Que me amas
Y te amo
Para siempre.

Let’s forget
The past
And let us live
The present.
What matters is
That you love me
And I love you
Forever.

Translation Notes:

Among love songs, this one is rather unique. I don’t usually hear these “we still love each other, let’s patch things up” type of lyrics. It is very mature. From this individual song, it isn’t even clear who made the mistake or what type of mistake it was. There is no blame placed, only a declaration of continued love.

From the rest of the album, we know that the mistake was infidelity, but this individual song works for whichever one of them was responsible. They both want to move on.

Olvidemos
El pasado
Y lo que diga la gente.

Let’s forget
The past
And what people [may] say.

Update 12/3/2022: I added “may” to fit the song timing better. The Spanish translation is correct with or without “may”. The meaning is slightly changed but either interpretation is fine.

Olvidemos
El pasado
Y vivamos
El presente.

Let’s forget
The past
And [let us] live
The present.

Update 12/3/2022: I added “let us”. It fits the song timing better and is equally literal.

Vale mucho un gran amor
Que en el perdón a crecido.
Hoy sé que el llanto sirvió
Para reforzar el nido.

It’s worth a lot, a great love,
That in forgiveness has grown.
Today I know that the tears served
To reinforce the nest.

He is saying that the difficulties and crying they both went through did not break their relationship, and instead helped them to reinforce it. The nest is the home they built together.
