“Ella Me Enamoró” by La Santa Cecilia, English translation of lyrics

“She Made Me Fall In Love” Lyrics
Album: Quiero Verte Feliz (I Want To See You Happy), 2021
Style: Cumbia about falling in love
Country: USA/Mexico (Mexican-American)
Listen: YouTube, Amazon

Translation:

En la locura de este pensamiento
Salen corriendo todos mis deseos.
Quisiera liberar mi pensamiento,
Buscándote a ti.

In the lunacy of this thought
All my desires go flying [*lit. running].
I would like to liberate my mind,
Looking for you.

Es el recuerdo de aquellos besos,
Es eso que me tiene preso.
Romper las cadenas del tiempo
Y no dejarte partir.

It’s the memory of those kisses,
It’s that that keeps me prisoner.
Breaking the chains of time
And not letting you go.

[Chorus]
Ella me enamoró aquella noche,
Aquella noche, me enamoró.
Le di mi corazón aquella noche,
Aquella noche, mi corazón.

She made me fall in love that night,
That night, she made me fall in love.
I gave her my heart that night,
That night, my heart.

Aunque el destino ya marcó el camino,
Cuánto placer siento de estar contigo,
Tu cara sonriendo y tus ojos mirándome así.

Although destiny already marked the path,
Look how much pleasure I feel being with you, *
Your face smiling and your eyes looking at me like that.

Yo sé que es breve este hermoso encuentro
Pero la vida se hace de momentos.
Tu cuerpo tan cerca del mío, bailando así.

I know that it’s brief, this beautiful encounter, *
But life is made of moments.
Your body so close to mine, dancing like that.

[Chorus]
Ella me enamoró aquella noche,
Aquella noche, me enamoró.
Le di mi corazón aquella noche,
Aquella noche, mi corazón.

She made me fall in love that night,
That night, she made me fall in love.
I gave her my heart that night,
That night, my heart.

[Musical interlude]

[Chorus]
Ella me enamoró aquella noche,
Aquella noche, me enamoró.
Le di mi corazón aquella noche,
Aquella noche, mi corazón.

She made me fall in love that night,
That night, she made me fall in love.
I gave her my heart that night,
That night, my heart.

Translation Notes:

En la locura de este pensamiento / Salen corriendo todos {mis deseos}.
In the lunacy of this thought / All {my desires} go flying.
In the lunacy of this thought / All {my wishes} go out running. [*literally]

The way I translated it (middle line) is the more common way to say this in English. The third line is the literal Spanish translation. The verb salir means “to exit” or “to go out”. Salir corriendo means “to go out running” (like runners when the race begins) or “to run away” (like kids running away from a babysitter in different directions) and also implies “to scatter” (like cats out of a bag).

Aunque el destino {ya} marcó el camino,
Although destiny {already} marked the path,

{Cuánto} placer siento de estar contigo *
{Look how much} pleasure I feel being with you
{How much} pleasure I feel being with you
I feel {so much} pleasure being with you

The bold phrase does not literally say “look” (or “see”) anywhere, but adding that makes the grammar closer to how one would say it in English. Cuánto is an intensifier.

{Yo sé} que [es breve] este hermoso encuentro
{I know} that [it’s brief], this beautiful encounter
{I know} that this beautiful encounter [is brief]

I kept the original phrase order since it was poetic and there was no real need to flip it. The second translation is how you would say it without the comma.
