“Disfruto” by Carla Morrison, English translation and meaning

“I Enjoy” Lyrics
Album: Dejénme Llorar (Let Me Cry), 2012
Style: Alternative rock, folk pop, emo melancholy love song
Country: Mexico, USA (Arizona)
Listen: YouTube

Translation:

Me complace amarte.
Disfruto acariciarte

Y ponerte a dormir.
Es escalofriante,
Tenerte de frente,

Hacerte sonreír.

I pleases me to love you.
I enjoy caressing you
And putting you to sleep.
It is goosebump-inducing,
Having you in front of me,
Making you smile.

Daría cualquier cosa
Por tan primorosa, por estar siempre aquí,
Y entre todas esas cosas
Déjame quererte, entrégate a mí.

I would give anything
For such exquisiteness, for being here forever,
And among all these things
Let me love you, submit yourself to me.

No te fallaré;
Contigo yo quiero envejecer.

I won’t fail you;
I want to grow old with you.

Quiero darte un beso,
Perder contigo mi tiempo,
Guardar tus secretos,
Cuidar tus momentos,
Abrazarte,
Esperarte, adorarte,
Tenerte paciencia,
Tu locura es mi ciencia.

I want to give you a kiss,
Spend my time with you,
Guard your secrets,
Take care of your moments,
Hug you,
Wait for you, adore you,
Have patience for you,
Your lunacy is my science.

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Uh-uh-uh-uh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh
, oh-oh

Disfruto mirarte,
Cada movimiento,
Un vicio que tengo.
Un gusto, valorarte,
Nunca olvidarte,
Entregarte mis tiempos.

I enjoy watching you,
Every movement,
A vice that I have.
It’s a joy, appreciating you,
Never forgetting you,
Giving you my time.

No te fallaré;
Contigo yo quiero envejecer.

I won’t fail you;
I want to grow old with you.

Quiero darte un beso,
Perder contigo mi tiempo,
Guardar tus secretos,
Cuidar tus momentos,
Abrazarte,
Esperarte, adorarte,
Tenerte paciencia,
Tu locura es mi ciencia.
(x2)

I want to give you a kiss,
Spend my time with you,
Guard your secrets,
Take care of your moments,
Hug you,
Wait for you, adore you,
Have patience for you,
Your lunacy is my science.

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Uh-uh-uh-uh
Uh-uh-uh-uh
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh
, oh-oh.

Translation Notes:

Es escalofriante,
Tenerte de frente,

Hacerte sonreír.

It is goosebump-inducing,
Having you in front of me,
Making you smile.

It gives me goosebumps,
Having you in front of me,
Making you smile.

Daría cualquier cosa
Por tan primorosa,

Por estar siempre aquí

I would give anything
For such exquisiteness,
For being here forever

I would give anything
For so skillfully…
For being here forever

I almost think a word is missing between “tan primorosa” and “por estar siempre aquí“. I think she was going to say something else and then switched mid-thought.

No te fallaré;
Contigo yo quiero envejecer.

I won’t fail you;
I want to grow old with you.

I won’t betray you / cheat on you;
I want to grow old with you.

I won’t let you down / disappoint you;
I want to grow old with you.

The Spanish line means all these three things simultaneously. Literally “I won’t fail you”, colloquially “I won’t cheat on you”, and tonally with the rest of the lyrics “I won’t disappoint you”.

Quiero darte un beso,
Perder contigo mi tiempo

I want to give you a kiss,
Spend my time with you

I want to give you a kiss,
Lose my time with you [*literally]

Guardar tus secretos,
Cuidar tus momentos,

Guard your secrets,
Take care of your moments

Cuidar” can also mean to guard, to watch over, to take care of.

Tu locura es mi ciencia.

Your lunacy is my science.

This line is not a colloquialism, but a completely new sentence that Carla Morrison made up. I believe she means that she is so committed to this relationship that she is carefully, scientifically even, making sure that they remain happy and “crazy in love” with her. She is being the perfect girlfriend and lover to keep them in love with her, because she herself loves them so much. The song tone sounds so melancholy and emo, but I do think she genuinely enjoys the giving part of love.
